This Southern fried chicken recipe is originally from Alabama and has been passed down for generations.
Ingredients
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
- salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Directions
Step 1
Season chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and paprika. Roll in flour.
Step 2
Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Step 3
Lower chicken pieces carefully into the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden, turning once, about 15 to 20 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Repeat with remaining chicken.
