Fried cabbage is a favorite at Mammaw’s house! Bacon is fried until crispy, then saut?ed with cabbage and onion in this simple, quick side dish. It’s terrific with cornbread.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3 slices bacon, cut into thirds
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
- 1 head cabbage, cored and sliced
- 1 white onion, chopped
- 1 pinch white sugar
Directions
Step 1
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat; add bacon and season with salt and pepper. Cook until bacon is crisp, 5 to 7 minutes.
Step 2
Add cabbage, onion, and sugar; cook and stir continuously until cabbage and onion are tender, about 5 to 10 minutes.
