This crock pot beef stroganoff is an easy variation of a favorite. I used to prepare it the traditional way with sour cream but was out of it one night, so I used cream cheese instead. My husband and I liked it even better! Serve over hot cooked egg noodles or rice.
Ingredients
- 1 pound cubed beef stew meat
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed golden mushroom soup
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 ounces cream cheese
Directions
Step 1
Combine beef, soup, onion, water, and Worcestershire sauce in a slow cooker.
Step 2
Cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 5 hours. Stir in cream cheese just before serving.
Step 3
Serve over noodles.

This is really a fabulous recipe. Thanks, Jessica! I added 1 cup of sliced, fresh mushrooms, 1/4 of dry sherry and 1/4 of flour to thicken the sauce. With these additions, it was absolutely delicious! My husband loved it. So quick and easy! We’ll be making this a lot this winter. It would be perfect to come home to after a day of skiing! Thanks, again.

All I’ve gotta say is that my 18 month old LOVED it! He gobbled every bite and wanted seconds. We’ve been experimenting in the kitchen lately to find kid friendly crockpot recipes, and this one is the best I’ve made! Oh yeah, the adults in the house also loved it. Only substitution was for light cream cheese and 8 oz package of presliced mushrooms. We served it on a cauliflower-potatoe puree. Will DEFINITELY make again!

This was fabulous. I am not a stew meat eater, but this recipe made it tender enough for me. I did not have time to let it simmer all day, so I put it on the stove top on low heat for a few hours. I also added mushrooms and used bite sized stew meat. My husband even liked it!!!

My family just LOVED this recipe. I did add a drained can of sliced mushrooms
and a bit more Worcestershire sauce for some extra “zip”. It was so easy to put
together and forget about while it cooked. The meat was so tender and delicious.
We served it with buttered noodles, some baked acorn squash from our garden,
a nice green salad, and fresh crusty hard rolls. This will definitely be added to
my permanent recipe collection. -

OK, my husband LICKED THE POT! And he’s not a pot licker! It was too easy. I threw the onions, soup, meat and Worcestershire sauce and water in the slow cooker and forgot about it for 8 hours. Then, I added the cream cheese and served it over rice and got a hug for a “great dinner”. TOO GOOD!

I also dredged the meat in flour and some seasoning and browned it before adding to the crock pot. This made for a nice, thick sauce in the end. I also added white cooking wine instead of the water and added fresh mushrooms right in the beginning. I thought this tasted more like beef stew (minus the veggies) than beef stroganoff. We thought it was okay but thought it was better after I added the traditional sour cream. Overall, my husband and I like my other recipe much better which is a stovetop method and partially consists of cream of mushroom soup, sliced sirloin, sour cream, etc. I hope to post it within the next couple of days for anyone intersted.

When something is this easy, it feels silly to complain because it is really easy.
When I ate it, though, I kept asking myself what was missing, like it missed some flavor. I even went back to check the recipe to see if I left something out.
Everyone liked it. A very very easy stroganoff

I just wanted to say I made this today for a group of 20 men!! I made enough for 26 people & had very little left over. The only thing I did different was to brown the meat a little at a time & then cook the onions a bit before putting everything in the slow cooker. I don’t know that it made a difference, but the meat was very tender. I will make this again & again!

My boyfriend loved this! It was very quick and easy to make. The sauce was a little thin, so I thickened it with cornstarch before adding the cream cheese. I also used red wine in place of the water, added an 8 oz. container of pre-sliced fresh mushrooms, and added quite a bit of pepper for extra flavor.

This is a great recipe and so easy to make! I’ve made it several times, following the instructions to the letter, and it has always been a big hit with my family. Most recently, I took advice from another reviewer and used Marsala wine instead of water….what a great flavor! I also add 1/2 a jar of capers, for a little extra zing. LOVE this recipe, and will continue making it for years to come.

This is a great recipe. I floured the beef and browned it first which helped thicken the gravy. Next time I think I will just add a little flour at the end for thickening and not bother with browning. The family really liked it. Also, per reviewer’s advice added a little wine, mushrooms and 3 oz of cream cheese. Carol R

This tastes really good, but I found that because I floured and browned the meat (which naturally thickens the sauce) and added fresh mushrooms (which absorb a LOT of moisture), I increased the water to a full cup and still would have been happy with a thinner sauce. I liked the flavor enough to give this another try – this time no mushrooms and with a full soup can of water. I also think I’ll use traditional sour cream instead – the cream cheese tasted very good, but I think the texture of the sour cream will suit my tastes better. That’s the beauty of this recipe – it’s a great place to take off & tinker to your preferences!

I love to cook and find it difficult to find slow cooker recipes that I like. This was excellent. I added a pinch of salt, plenty of pepper and probably doubled the amount of Worcestershire, and doubled the amount of meat. Plenty of tasty sauce with a perfect consistency. My teenage daughter said it was one of her favorite meals that I have made. I might try browning the meat next time to add the pan juices and carmelized flavor to the dish.

I made this recipe for a special anniversary dinner for my husband. Instead of chopped onion, I added a package of Mrs. Grass onion soup mix. I also added a small can of chopped mushrooms, 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup and lite sour cream. It was perfect. A keeper for sure!!

My husband & mother *loved* this dish! I’m not a mushroom person, so I substituted a can of cream of brocolli soup with excellent results. I also added a little bit of white wine to the water while cooking. The stew beef turned out wonderful & tender and the sauce was wonderful. I will make this again & again!

Being someone who hates to cook but loves to slow cook, this recipe was wonderful! I put the ingredients together the night before and by morning my home had the wonderful smell of an excellent dish. I have shared this recipe with co-workers who give it a “thumbs-up.” I have substituted chicken and it was just as good.

I prepared this for my all-women Bunco group and increased the recipe to serve 12. I bought very lean stew meat and added two small cans of mushrooms. It was very easy and I served with a choice of rice or egg noodles. The leftovers were even better several days later. Received rave reviews.
