This Sicilian-style pizza sauce is so easy to make and more flavorful than store-bought. This recipe makes enough sauce for two pizzas. It can be frozen and stored in single-serving portions.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomato pur?e
- ½ cup water
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions
Step 1
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and saut? until just starting to turn golden, 5 to 8 minutes. Stir in tomato pur?e, water, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
Step 2
Bring sauce to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until flavors blend, about 30 minutes.
