These red velvet waffles are so delicious, decadent, and wonderful! Makes the perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast. Very rich. The recipe makes quite a bit of glaze.

Ingredients

Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, or to taste (Optional)
  • 6 tablespoons whipped cream, or to taste (Optional)
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries, or to taste (Optional)

Glaze

  • 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar (Optional)
  • ½ cup whole milk, or more as needed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Waffles

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter, cooled
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon red velvet food coloring (such as Lorann Professional Kitchen) Red Velvet Bakery Emulsion) or as desired

Directions

Step 1
Make waffles: Whisk flour, white sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.

Step 2
Beat buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and vinegar together in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in red food coloring. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined.

Step 3
Preheat a waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.

Step 4
While the waffle iron is heating, make glaze: Beat cream cheese and butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy. Gradually mix in confectioners' sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla, until smooth. Set aside.

Step 5
Spoon 1/4 to 1/2 cup waffle batter into the preheated waffle iron. Cook according to manufacturer's directions. Repeat with remaining batter.

Step 6
Lightly dust each waffle with confectioners' sugar, drizzle with glaze, and top with whipped cream and strawberries.

Tips

You can substitute Splenda for sugar in waffle batter.
