The recipe for these Italian cookies was handed down by my grandmother. It’s been in the family for at least four generations.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup white sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two baking sheets.
Step 2
Combine flour and baking powder in a bowl.
Step 3
Beat butter and sugar in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Mix in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla. Gradually stir in flour mixture until well blended.
Step 4
Roll walnut-sized portions of dough into small ropes. Shape each rope into a loop and press the ends to seal. Place 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.
Step 5
Bake in the preheated oven until firm and golden at the edges, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
