Hamburger Stroganoff

My whole family loves this recipe for beef stroganoff with hamburger meat. It’s a hearty meal with rich, tangy, and delicious flavors. Garnish with additional sour cream and fresh parsley.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef chuck
  • 1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated raw horseradish (Optional)

Directions

Step 1
Cook and stir beef, mushrooms, onion, and garlic in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until beef is browned and crumbly, 6 to 8 minutes. Add flour; cook and stir until combined, about 2 minutes. Stir in broth, condensed soup, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and salt; bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until flavors blend, about 15 minutes.

Step 2
When you reduce the heat, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles, return to a boil, and cook, uncovered and stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 6 minutes. Drain and keep warm.

Step 3
Mix sour cream and horseradish together in a bowl. Stir into beef mixture and cook until hot, about 5 minutes. Serve over egg noodles.

Tips

Use cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic if you can find it.

This was an awesome recipe! I followed it as written and even added the horseradish. I really did take just under 30 minutes to make it from start to finish. I wouldn’t’ change anything! It does make enough to feed 8 people not 4.

    this was really good!

Very tasty and filling. However I thought the sauce tasted better before I added the sour cream. Next time I will only add the horseradish and use the sour cream as garnish.

This was really good. I could make the sauce all in one skillet and it wasn’t at all difficult. I really liked the taste of this one and I didn’t have to go buy more expensive steaks or beef cubes. This was a real winner for my family.

Made it exactly according to recipe and it turned out amazing. We loved it! Will be in the rotation now.

This was simple, quick and delicious. I made this when we were kids and it was a family favorite. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Added a few Hot Pepper Sliced and topped with Parmesan Cheese. ??

For all the items in this recipe – it wasn’t very tasty. I used everything listed and followed directions. The exception being – I used jarred horseradish (extra hot). . .The outcome was ok, but not great. Also, I followed the 4 serving recipe. After two of us ate – there was about 3/4 of the recipe leftover.

Very good! A little less pepper needed for our house.

It is delicious and easy, though I must be slow because it took me longer than other cooks.
NEXT time I will probably put in a bit less Worcestershire sauce. I may have put in too much broth, as I use Better than Bouillon beef and chicken paste (AWESOME flavor), and there was quite a bit of sauce! So, since I had thawed 2 lbs of ground beef, I used the whole 2 lbs, and it fit perfectly.
I steamed 2 bags of cauliflower & dumped them in the bottom of a (pre-heated) crock pot, then poured hot mixture on top, and set temp to Warm so family could eat when they had to. Will heat up some lowish-carb buttered egg noodles (Carba-Nada brand – REAL noodles).

Quick and tasty. However, I made my own cream sauce without using the soup.

    Absolutely delicious!
Easy and quick to make with will with green beans or a salad.

I didn’t have any egg noodles, so I used large elbow noodles. It was simple to make and delicious. There weren’t any leftovers either. Sold out first go round in my house. Thank you

Needed a quick meal with hamburger and this was great. I think I’ll add less worcestershire sauce next time, but the flavor was still really good. Served it over rice.

This was absolutely terrible. The ground chuck produced a LOT of fluid which you did not call to be drained off. I thought it should have been but I stuck by the recipe. It was runny, not creamy like stroganoff is supposed to be.

This was very quick and easy. I added more horseradish since my husband and I both enjoy it. I’ll be making this again soon.

This is a great recipe! We really enjoyed it. It’s quite hearty and flavorful.

This turned out really good and it was thick the flour you add is a thickening agent works so good

Made this last night for dinner, and it’s nothing special following the directions. i thought it was pretty bland.

You need to season the meat, i use Franks season and lawry’s season salt and black pepper. Season with what you like, bland meat like this ruins any recipe.

Very good recipe. I used half the salt due to the saltiness of the soup. Good flavor

Followed the recipe the first time. Not for us.
The next time we went with ground chicken and chicken broth.
We omitted the salt figured there was enough in the worcestershire sauce and the canned soup.
We added cornstarch instead of flour.
We used rigatoni instead of egg noodles.
Everything else stayed the same as the recipe.
The horseradish was a definite plus
    Thanks for the recipe

I?ve been making this for decades, but no flour no beef broth , and a big dollop of ketchup with the worst shire . The combo makes the tang in the sauce . Never tried the horseradish but I certainly will

So simple and so delicious!! Will definitely make again! Didn’t have sour cream so substituted heavy cream and was still delicious!!

    Super easy and super delish!!

I like Campbell’s Mushroom Soup in some recipes but find it completely unnecessary in the ground beef Stroganoff. The combination of broth, flour and a couple tablespoons of cream cheese makes plenty of sauce with the final addition of sour cream. I haven’t tried horseradish in this dish before but think it will add a little extra spark. Thanks for the suggestion.

great taste easy to make big hit with my husband.

Tasteless. A huge waste of time and materials. Even nutmeg, pepper and parmesan couldn’t improve it.

Very good recipe that makes a large amount. My family liked this very much. I will use 3/4 cup of sour cream in future as that was a bit overwhelming, and I would not use horse radish( only preference). I will make again as it gets on the table quickly also

This by far was the best hamburger stroganoff recipe that I’ve ever made. The family loved it.

Great Hamburger Stroganoff recipe. I did use homemade Beef Stock; added 2-tablespoons Smoked Paprika; added 1/4-1/2 cup Cream Cheese and added 1-1 1/2 tablespoon of Dijon Mustard. The result was a very thick, very creamy, somewhat tangy, and incredibly satisfying Stroganoff over Egg Noodles. My hint: try a Lingonberry jam on the side!

    Made as it.

Pretty good for hamburger stroganoff. I added a few shakes of smoked paprika. We enjoyed it.
