I’m constantly asked to make this tasty dish and why not? It is a hearty meal in itself, perfect for game day or when you don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen. I will usually serve it with cheesy homemade garlic bread.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
- 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 2 green bell peppers, chopped
- 1 cup water
- 2 yellow onions, chopped
- 1 cup converted raw rice
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- ½ teaspoon hot sauce, or to taste
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, or to taste
Directions
Step 1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef in the hot skillet until lightly browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard fat.
Step 2
Transfer beef to a slow cooker. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, green bell peppers, water, onions, rice, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and hot sauce. Cook on High until rice is tender, about 3 hours. Serve in bowls and top with Cheddar cheese.
Cook’s Notes:
You can use beef chuck or sirloin instead of ground beef, if desired.
