Place confectioners' sugar, shortening, water, and vanilla into a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed to combine, then beat on medium speed for a full 5 minutes.
Tips
Make sure to beat the icing for a full 5 minutes. It won't look like icing at first but keep mixing, and it will come together!
