I don’t have vegtable oil, so substituted with Garbonella Olive Oil.
Resulting in excellent loaf. I couldn’t get other breads to rise properly using bread machine’s manufacturers instructions, i.e. don’t let yeast touch liquid at start. Using this recipe you get a better rise, though you must keep an eye on it on the final bake cycle as the top crust may push against the window. -

This is the quickest and easiest bread machine recipe ever. Makes a perfect loaf. I replaced a cup of bread flour with whole wheat flour and that came out great, too. I recommend using the light crust setting on your machine with this recipe. If you’re cost conscious you’ll like knowing that this recipe costs about .55 cents per loaf to make, .60 cents for wheat…much better than even thrift store prices!

What a nice surprise to see this bread turn out so well. My family loved it. It couldn’t be easier. My bread machine gives a different order for the ingredients but I followed the directions in the recipe and it turned out perfect. I added 1 1/2 teaspoons of dill weed to my second loaf and it was also great. This is a “keeper”. Jules

I have made this bread 6 or 7 times and every time the top falls. However, this does not affect the quality or good taste, OR the great crust. I have tried MANY white bread recipes for bread machines and this is by far the most consistent, easiest, most tasty one yet. Easy to modify and get same results, too.

This is the absolute best bread I have ever tasted.I would reccomend this recipe to anyone. I have been baking in a bread machine for a while now and have not been able to find a decent recipe(all my roommates told me that I was a bad cook!!). The crust was so flaky and the inside was soft and muy delisioso! You must try this if youn haven’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a big bread machine user. I make bread in mine almost everyday and can honestly say this is a GREAT recipe. You wouldn’t think that a few little techniques would make any difference, but the crust on this is light and thin, much like bread in the oven. Usually bread machine bread crust is hard and thick and we slice it off. Not with this recipe! Try it! It is yummy. Three of us ate the entire loaf for dinner.

Excellent recipe! I have had a bread machine for almost 7 years and never had any success with an actual loaf of bread until now! I always have just used the bread machine to make dough but not anymore. This recipe is wonderful, easy to do, no fancy ingredients-it’s just all-around great. Thanks for sharing it!

I’m new to bread machines and this is the first recipe that I made that wasn’t out of a box and all I can say is good-bye to box mixes and good-bye to store bought white bread. I followed this recipe to the letter. Had no problems like some other reviewers did. It was sooooo good!!!! GRANDMA GRAYCE

I used this dough to make Pepperoni bread. I simply set the machine on dough cycle, rolled dough out onto a jelly roll pan (about 1/4″ thick) placed a layer of thin sliced pepperoni & added a layer of low moisture mozzerella, rolled the bread into a long loaf (sealing the seams) brushed with an egg wash & baked at 350 for 25 min. My family loves it!

I read all the reviews and thought I would try a new recipe instead of the one I normally use. This bread did NOT come out tasting good. It tasted very bland and the crust was way too thick. I thought I may have did it wrong so I tried again and followed the instructions to the t, but again icky. I will not make this again.

The initial stage of the recipe bumps the instructions for adding ingredients in my bread machine. I therefore had my doubts as to whether I would get a good result.
I was sooooooo wrong to be a doubting Thomas. The end product was superb. It was most definitely the best loaf I have made yet, for my taste.

First recipe tried other than recipes bought with machine (tried several since). This was great! Very crusty and extremely light and fluffy. A touch sweet – but personal taste. My 3 yr old liked it. From over 20 loaves tried so far is definately the best. Shall be making regularly.

I hate to write a disappointing review after all the praise for this recipe, but I didn’t care for this bread. It was dry in the machine and didn’t incorporate into a kneaded ball–it was the first loaf I had to take out and knead myself. The bread had an excellent consistancy and great crust but one thing lacked: a taste. It tasted like pure flour. Kind of disappointing. I’m tempted to try this recipe again to see if it’s any better, but as for now the only redeeming taste quality is the herbs and parmesan I sprinkled on top of the loaf the last 20 minutes of baking. =)

Just used a flour called Manitoba Flour, produced from 100% Canadian Wheat its a strong protein flour ideal for bread & pasta, you only need 2 & 1/3 cups of the flour [if you use the recommended 3 cups its rises too much & pushed up the lid of my bread maker by about 1/4 of an inch!!] if you live in England the flour is produced by Marriages The Master Millers based in Chelmsford, try it the results are excellent, makes the bread even better [hard to believe, I know but trust me]

This recipe is perfect as-is. I’ve been using it for at least 15 years, and it has never failed to produce a loaf that is crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We eat it fresh with butter or made into the BEST toast with breakfast. It’s incredibly easy as well. Big thumbs up, here.

One word – WOW!!! I was skeptical when I saw how few ingredients there were… and I felt like I needed to look over my shoulder at letting the yeast touch the water against my machine’s instructions… but followed the recipe to the letter. Phenominal. Had three slices (with butter – yum) before it had been done 15 minutes! Fabulous recipe!

Second loaf of bread I made with my new bread machine. Very impressed with texture and taste of this bread. I found that the yeast took longer than 5-10 min. to foam, waited almost 30 minutes to foam before I added flour, etc., and could not get the bread out of the pan without using a spatula to remove it from the sides. This one is a keeper!!

If you’re new at working with yeast and bread machines like I am, try this recipe – it’s wonderful! And if you’re avoiding it because it calls for packaged yeast and all you have is yeast in a jar (me again), check the jar – I found the equivilant measurement on the side. Who knew it could be this easy? 🙂

I’ve been looking for an easy, yet good Bread Machine recipe for white bread. I’ve found it! Not only was it easy, but there were so few ingredients. The texture and taste was terrific!! I didn’t have bread machine yeast, so I used regular packaged yeast in the same amount. It worked fine! thanks for sharing!

Excellent! I was beginning to give up on finding a good basic white bread recipe. I tried the recipe that came with my machine and it flopped. It was dense and sticky and had a sweet flavor to it. I was worried about adding the ingredients against the directions that came with my machine (water first, then flour and yeast on top), but don’t doubt it! It works! The only thing I changed was using olive oil because it’s what I had on hand. This bread was light and airy with a perfecly crisp crust. I don’t know if it will work with the rapid setting I have on my machine, but I’m going to give that a try next using the rapid rise yeast. This recipe is definitely a keeper in my book. Thanks!

This is the best bread machine recipe I have ever tried! It hits the window every time! Thank you Karen. I am using my bread machine every day now. I made a few changes to the recipe. I didn’t have any bread machine flour or prepackaged yeast, so I use regular white flour and 2 teaspoons of quick rise yeast and it works great!

***For those that worry about adding yeast to water first, contrary to the machine instructions, it is perfectly fine as long as you are not using the delay settings. Liquid activates the yeast. If using delay, then yeast should go on top so it is not activated prematurely. Just be sure it does not sit in contact with the salt.
